Salzburg

Salzburg was pretty cool, we actually could have spent more time there even. We arrived on the later side, but got lucky and found a place to stay in the first hostel we went to, YoHo (Youth Hostel).

We found a great brewery that we actually ended up at three nights in a row, unintentionally. Good food, good beer, pretty packed... what more can you ask for.

The first day, we wandered around old town, which was pretty cool. We toured the Festung Hohensalzburg, the huge castel that sits on the hill above the city. We also went to the Salzburg Museum, which apparently won an award for being so good. It was pretty cool as far as museums go. The audio tour was done really well.

Our last day, we went to the Ice Caves, which was incredible. They're totally natural. You walk through on the wooded walkways and stairways they have put through the path. It's amazing, just a massive cave with ice as think as 70 meters in some places. You go through the tour all bundled up holding lanterns. The guide burns magnesium, which is really bright and was apparently the way they lit the way back in 1889 (I think) when the cave was originally discovered. We took a tram straight up the hill in order to get there.

During the tour, we met 4 guys that were staying at our hostel. They were alot of fun. We ended up hanging out with them all day and then drinking with them all night. It was pretty crazy; after dinner and allot of beer at the brewery, we went to the hostel for more. We played kings and sung to a bunch of songs on the aussie's iPod--most of it american and some of it country.

At one point, not sure how it happened, but one of the guys got the bar tender to do a trick involving setting a plate of alcohol on fire and then blowing fire by spitting alcohol through it. It was cool at first, but then the fire climbed back up and for a few moments, he had fire on his face and then his hands from trying to wipe it. Don't worry, he was fine, we got it out quick, but he definitely singed a hair or two. I'm guessing he won't be doing that again anytime soon. Erin's got it on video.

Off to Munich, yikes.
